The LeftY Advantage
Why aren’t there left handed field hockey sticks?
Safety. Left handed sticks cause a high risk to injury in the game of field hockey. If a right handed player came in for a block tackle against a left handed stick they would most likely get hit on the follow through swing. This would be the same if a left handed player came in for a block tackle against a right handed stick.
Whenever I coach a left handed player, I tell them they may actually have an advantage! The left hand is the strength on the stick and the right hand is the guide.
Most lefties I know have just learned to play right-handed, although I have seen a few who play entirely on their reverse side - very impressive, but it takes a lot of practice and unbelievable hand-eye coordination.
